Well, someone asking a question on the forums related to charcoal inspired me to create this video of how I go about using Conte Crayons.

The image above is just for advertising you will have to goto my personal website to view the video.

[link] <-- The Video is roughly 25mb.

Sorry, for crappy camera angles and accidents. It is quite hard to hold a camera while holding the paper and drawing at the same time.

So what happens at the "Oh Shit!" part of the movie? Well, all the stuff on the right side of my drawing table decided to just slide off at that moment...

When drawing with conte or charcoal do not move your wrist to draw. Instead, you move your entire arm to create all the strokes. Thus, you need quite a bit of room to efficiently use crayon or compressed charcoal.

Oh by the way, I do know names of some of the muscles. The muscle I refer to in the movie is the trapezius muscle. I just had to come up with something as I could not think of it at that time while I was Drawing on the Right side of my brain ;P.

I will be doing a follow up of this with how to blend and hatch with black and white crayon.

Second part is now up at: [link]

Very cool dude. I learned a lot.

Haha, your six minute sketch is so many times better than my 3 hour ones. :D

Thanks, though I am still no master, with crayons, compared to artists like Paul Cadmas.

Well, compared to me, you're like god.

Does Paul Cadmas have a website/DA page?

No, do a google search for Paul Cadmus. He died a few years ago, however he was quite famous in the fine arts of the 20th century.

He's really good. Not my style, but he's got skills.
